Precious Gifts

As anyone who knows me could attest, I am terrible when it comes to waiting to give gifts! So, in typical "me" fashion, tonight I let the kids open their gifts from one another. For the first year so far, Connor was so darn excited he was dancing and jumping up and down. He was hugging my legs and saying "Thank you Mommy, thank you"! Of course, I replied "Connor, this gift is from your sister, not me". And then, in typical Connor fashion, he replied, "I know its from Payton, but YOU bought it"! I had to laugh. He is so logical and wants to understand everything fully and completely. This reminds me of last week at AWANA. I had to explain to Connor that he was going to miss Jesus' birthday party the following week due to his Christmas Program at Preschool. He just stared at me...totally overlooking the reason for our absence. He was fixated on the fact that they would be celebrating Jesus' birthday at AWANA. Then, he said in an astonished, amazed tone of voice...."Jesus is coming down HERE"? As though he was thinking....I can't miss THAT! It was hilarious and heart-warming to me. I am repeatedly reminded this season of the sheer innocence and blind faith of a child. And, on top of that, I am reminded of what true gifts Payton and Connor are to me. I often learn more from them than they learn from me. And, some days I question how God could have trusted ME with such precious cargo.
