It's officially Summer in Arizona! School is out and schedules are changing. I'm a little nervous for summer this year because Connor is a little older and a little more selective when it comes to what he likes and does not like to do. Last summer, he was happy to do whatever Payton wanted to do. I have a feeling it's not going to be like last year.
The most common question among Mom's lately is "what are your plans for the summer"? I keep asking myself when the time began where we need to have an itinerary, a road map of activities, or every moment filled with something notable? I remember when summer just meant riding my bike over to my Grama's house where I would dump a big bag of candy on the couch and sit and talk to her while I made myself sick on about 2,000 calories worth of sugar. Nowadays, you need to have scheduled activities for kids including enrollment in some kind of sport and, of course, something educational planned or else you're probably not a very good Mom (or at least that is how you are left feeling).
I've decided that my goal for the summer is going to be to just enjoy (truly enjoy) every moment I can with my kids. This is the time of their lives where they actually WANT to be with me. I need to seize the moment! So, our plans are going to include some Wii Fit sporting events ....Payton and I are highly competitive and are always trying to beat each others scores. We'll probably follow all that "exercise" up with some cookie and brownie-baking (which Connor loves to do). We'll do lots of swimming in the pool and eat our dinners outside on the patio. After that, when the sun is going down, we'll get on the big double chaise lounge (in our PJ's) and read stories before it gets too dark. And, right before bed, we'll watch all of the stars (along with several airplanes) sparkling in the sky over our house. If you've been to AZ, you know how sparkly with stars the sky is at night! We NEVER get over that.
God gave me Payton and Connor to take care of....they really are His. I hope to make every moment I have with them count.
